Lewis Leaves Race,
Remains Dedicated to City of Scranton
Scranton, PA – Paperwork was filed this
morning with the Lackawanna County Bureau of Elections to formally and
officially announce the withdrawal of Garett Lewis as the Republican candidate
for the office of Mayor of the City of Scranton. Mr. Lewis’s withdrawal creates a vacancy that
the Republican Party will work to fill.
“The Republican Party would like to
express its gratitude to Mr. Lewis for putting himself forward as a candidate
for Mayor. His financial background and
expertise drove the debate toward Scranton’s finances – an area of great
concern to all taxpayers of the city of Scranton, regardless of their political
affiliation. That very same expertise
has unexpectedly grown Mr. Lewis’s business, making it impossible for him to
dedicate the time necessary to campaign for this office,” said Chairman Lance
Stange.
“I want to stress that while this can no
longer be my full time focus, I remain dedicated to addressing the systemic
drivers of the city's financial crisis and look forward to working with the new
Republican candidate,” added Mr. Lewis.
Stange continued, “The Republican Party
will work diligently to put forward an experienced, educated, and well-prepared
candidate for Mayor of the City of Scranton who the people of our great city
can put their faith in to improve Scranton’s financial condition, quality of
life, and local economy.”
