Chairman Stange releases statement on 2014 General Election Results

SCRANTON, PA - Lance Stange, Jr., Chairman of the Republican Party of Lackawanna County released the following statement regarding tonight's election results.

“I want to sincerely thank Governor Tom Corbett and Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley for their service to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  Their leadership over the past four years has contributed to the creation of over 180,000 private sector jobs and the lowering of our unemployment rate to 5.7% - contributing mightily to the restarting of Pennsylvania’s economy. 

“I thank Melanie Madeira, Doctor Moylan, Marcel Lisi, and Joe Albert for putting themselves forward as candidates for office and running strong campaigns.

“I would also like to congratulate Karen Boback – Lackawanna County’s newest Republican official – on her decisive victory tonight as well as Tom Marino on his successful campaign for Congress.

“Finally, I would like to thank all of the volunteers who worked tirelessly in support of the Republican Party and its candidates.”

Do you need an absentee ballot?

Pennsylvania voters that cannot make it to the polls on Election Day can vote by mail via absentee ballot.  If you need an absentee ballot, follow these simple steps:

1. Download the application form by clicking here.
2. Print and complete the application.  If you can any questions, call Lackawanna County Voter Services at 570-963-6737.
3. Mail or hand deliver your application to Lackawanna County Voter Services so that they will receive it no later than 5:00 pm on Tuesday, 28 October 2014.
4. Voter Services will then mail a ballot to you.  When you receive it, complete it right away and mail or hand deliver your ballot so that it is received by the Board of Elections no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, 31 October 2014.

Lackawanna GOP Elects Officers

On Wednesday, 25 June 2014 the Republican Party of Lackawanna County assembled for the purpose of electing officers of the committee.  Committee persons elected at the 2014 Primary Election as well as the current members of the Executive Committee were entitled to cast a ballot in the election.

The following officers were unanimously elected to serve a four-year term:
Lance J. Stange, Jr. of Scranton - Chair
Barbara Davenport of Scranton - Vice Chair
M. Vincent Cruciani of Clarks Summit - Treasurer
Kimberly DeMatteo-MacDonald of Olyphant - Secretary

Chairman Stange issued the following statement:

Lackawanna GOP Update

Good morning and welcome to the latest Lackawanna GOP Update.

2013 In Review:
The Lackawanna GOP had another successful election in 2013.  We had almost 160 candidates on the ballot in 2013 and 85% of them won - and that doesn't count the write-in candidates.

You made that happen.  It is critical that we build on these local victories and use that momentum for our candidates this year.

Important Update on party offices:
At this year's Primary Election we will be electing both the District Committee positions as well as Republican State Committee members.

Each district is entitled to one Committee Man and one Committee Woman.

Lackawanna County, as a whole, is able to elect three members of the Republican State Committee. There is gender split in this office meaning that we elect the male with the highest vote, the female with the highest vote, and then the candidate with the next highest vote, regardless of gender.

Reapportionment:
State House and State Senate reapportionment is in effect for the 2014 Elections.  Lackawanna County will now have five State House Districts.  If you know of anyone interested in seeking any of these offices, please notify us by emailing lackawannagop@gmail.com.  The new districts are as follows:

112th Legislative District
Part of LACKAWANNA County consisting of the CITY of Scranton (PART, Wards 09, 10, 11, 12, 17 and 19 [PART, Divisions 01 and 02]) and the BOROUGHS of Archbald, Blakely, Dunmore, Jessup, Olyphant and Throop.
Total population: 63,713

113th Legislative District
Part of LACKAWANNA County consisting of the CITY of Scranton (PART, Wards 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 13, 14, 15, 16, 19 [PART, Divisions 03 and 04], 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24) and the TOWNSHIP of South Abington and the BOROUGH of Clarks Green.
Total population: 64,445
