In response to Scranton’s former Democratic Mayor Bill
Courtright pleading guilty to corruption charges, the Republican Party of
Lackawanna County’s Chairman, Lance Stange Jr., issued the following statement:
"The people of Scranton deserve a government that works for
them, not one that uses positions of political power to line their pockets or oppress
their political opponents.
As Scranton’s City Council contemplates who should be the
next Mayor, partisan politics should not enter the equation. Scranton’s residents and taxpayers are
counting on Council to select someone who has the experience and qualifications
to effectively and efficiently manage the City and its $110 million dollar budget
while restoring the public’s confidence in their government."
